Ceramic Injection Molding Parts (CIM)
High-precision, high-volume complex ceramic components via powder injection molding
Ceramic Injection Molding (CIM) Technology
Ceramic Injection Molding (CIM) is an advanced net-shape manufacturing process for producing complex ceramic components with high precision and in high volumes. This powerful technology combines the design freedom of plastic injection molding with the superior properties of technical ceramics — hardness, thermal stability, electrical insulation, and chemical inertness.
Khat Group has developed full in-house CIM capabilities in Iran, covering mold design, tooling fabrication, feedstock preparation, molding, debinding, sintering, and quality control.
Key Advantages of CIM
| Advantage | Description |
|---|---|
| Complex Geometries | Undercuts, internal threads, blind holes, and intricate 3D shapes impossible or cost-prohibitive with conventional pressing |
| Tight Tolerances | ±0.3–0.5% as-sintered, eliminating expensive secondary machining |
| Superior Surface Finish | Ra 0.2–0.4 µm straight from the mold, minimizing post-processing |
| High Repeatability | Excellent part-to-part consistency for high-volume automated production |
| Material Versatility | Alumina, zirconia, silicon nitride, Y-TZP, and custom composites |
Production Process
- Feedstock Preparation — Ceramic powder compounded with organic binder system for optimal flow
- Injection Molding — High-pressure molding in precision tooling under controlled temperature
- Debinding — Controlled binder removal via thermal and/or solvent extraction
- Sintering — High-temperature densification (1400–1600 °C) with atmosphere control
- Inspection & QC — Dimensional, density, microstructural, and mechanical testing
Typical Applications
- Electronics & Electrical: IC sockets, sensor housings, microwave components, insulators
- Automotive: Fuel injection components, sensor parts, ceramic valves, pump components
- Textile Industry: Ceramic cutting blades, thread guides, wear-resistant parts
- Medical & Dental: Implants, surgical instruments, dental components
- Oil, Gas & Petrochemical: Corrosion-resistant valves, nozzles, pump parts
