Grade system — three purities, four particle sizes
Alpha alumina is available in three purity levels and four particle-size ranges, giving twelve selectable grade combinations. Each grade carries a structured product code:
| Purity | > 80 µm | < 80 µm | < 20 µm | < 5 µm | < 1 µm (nano) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| ≥ 99.5% | — | KG-ALO99-80 | KG-ALO99-20 | KG-ALO99-5 | KG-ALO99-nano |
| ≥ 98% | — | KG-ALO98-80 | KG-ALO98-20 | KG-ALO98-5 | KG-ALO98-nano |
| ≥ 95% | — | KG-ALO95-80 | KG-ALO95-20 | KG-ALO95-5 | KG-ALO95-nano |
High-purity grade — ≥ 99.5%
The high-purity series is intended for applications where minimal impurities, excellent dielectric performance and high sintered density are critical.
| Grade code | Purity | Particle size |
|---|---|---|
| KG-ALO99-80 | ≥ 99.5% | < 80 µm |
| KG-ALO99-20 | ≥ 99.5% | < 20 µm |
| KG-ALO99-5 | ≥ 99.5% | < 5 µm |
| KG-ALO99-nano | ≥ 99.5% | < 1 µm (submicron) |
Component-grade — ≥ 98%
The 98% series balances purity with cost and is suited to ceramic part fabrication (pressing, slip casting, extrusion, CIM) where good mechanical strength and insulation are required.
| Grade code | Purity | Particle size |
|---|---|---|
| KG-ALO98-80 | ≥ 98% | < 80 µm |
| KG-ALO98-20 | ≥ 98% | < 20 µm |
| KG-ALO98-5 | ≥ 98% | < 5 µm |
| KG-ALO98-nano | ≥ 98% | < 1 µm (submicron) |
Component-grade — ≥ 95%
The 95% series is intended for part fabrication where slightly lower strength is acceptable, offering a cost-effective option for general-purpose ceramic components.
| Grade code | Purity | Particle size |
|---|---|---|
| KG-ALO95-80 | ≥ 95% | < 80 µm |
| KG-ALO95-20 | ≥ 95% | < 20 µm |
| KG-ALO95-5 | ≥ 95% | < 5 µm |
| KG-ALO95-nano | ≥ 95% | < 1 µm (submicron) |
