Magnet types

1. AlNiCo (Aluminum-Nickel-Cobalt)

Properties: High remanence, low coercivity, excellent temperature stability (up to 860°C), corrosion resistant.

Grades: AlNiCo 5, 8, 9 — varying Co/Al/Ni ratios.

Applications: Electric motors, guitar pickups, microphones, sensors, Hall-effect devices, MRI components, aerospace actuators, high-temp fixtures, therapeutic heating.

2. NdFeB (Neodymium-Iron-Boron) — Strongest Permanent Magnets

Properties: Highest energy product (35–52 MGOe), high remanence, moderate coercivity. Max operating temp: 80°C (standard) to 200°C (high-grade). Prone to corrosion — requires coating.

Coatings: NiCuNi, Zn, epoxy, Al composite, PTFE, phosphating.

Grades: N35–N52, M/H/SH/UH/EH series for temperature stability.

Applications: EV motors, wind generators, compressors, high-speed motors, elevator motors, VCM (HDD/CD-DVD), servo motors, vibration motors, magnetic separators, audio (speakers, microphones, guitars), sensors, reed switches.

3. SmCo (Samarium-Cobalt) — High-Temperature Performance

Properties: 2nd highest energy product, excellent temperature stability (up to 350°C), corrosion resistant (no coating needed), good low-temp performance.

Compositions: SmCo₅ (1:5) and Sm₂Co₁₇ (2:17) — latter has higher temperature stability.

Applications: Aerospace actuators, microwave devices, high-temp motors, turbo machinery, downhole pumps, magnetic couplings/bearings, gyroscopes, accelerometers, particle accelerators, medical devices, radar-absorbing materials, robotic arms.

4. Ferrite (Ceramic) Magnets — Ba/Sr Ferrite

Properties: High hardness, good corrosion resistance, low cost. Max operating temp: ~450°C. Lower energy product than rare-earth magnets.

Grades: Y10T, Y8T, custom grades.

Applications: Refrigerator seals, magnetic strips, credit cards, switches/relays, EDM, speakers, microwave components, toys/decoration, power tools, washing machines, ABS systems, printers, step motors.
